New Zealand Family Relationship Visa (subclass 461):

New Zealand Citizens usually enter Australia on a Special Category Visa (Subclass 444) that is granted to them automatically who arrive in Australia and who do not hold a permanent visa.

The purpose of this visa is to allow non-New Zealand citizens to travel to and live in Australia with a New Zealand citizen family member who is a Special Category visa holder.

If your relationship with the New Zealand Citizen has ended, you may still be eligible for this visa. Please contact us to find out if you would qualify.

Parent Visa (subclass 103 parent visa)

The Parent visa is for applicants who meet the balance of family test and have a child who is an Australian Citizen or Permanent resident who can meet the residency requirements. Applicants need to meet Health and character requirements.

Please note that this stream has extended processing times. An assurance of support is required.

Contributory Parent Visa (subclass 173/143 , 884/864):

The Contributory Parent Visa is for applicants who meet the balance of family test and have a child who is an Australian Citizen or Permanent resident who can meet the residency requirements. Applicants need to meet Health and character requirements.

There are substantial costs and charges associated with this visa and one of the benefits is that the processing time is considerable shorter than the 103 visa.

There are various options under the Contributory Parent visa category and we can discuss the various pathways in relevance to your preferred pathway and ability to meet the requirements. An Assurance of support is required.

Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804 visa):

The aged parent visa is for applicants who meet the age requirements and also meet the balance of family test. There needs to be a child who is an Australian Citizen or Permanent resident who can meet the residency requirements. Applicants need to meet Health and character requirements. An assurance of support is required.

Child (Permanent) Visa (subclass 101): 

This visa is for children under 25 years old, who are overseas who are natural, adopted or step-children of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

Child (Permanent) Visa (subclass 802):

This is for children from overseas under 25 years old, who are in Australia at the time of application and are the natural, adopted, step children of, an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

Child: Dependent child, natural, adopted or step- child of the Australian sponsor/nominator.

Adoption (Permanent) Visa (subclass 102):

This visa is for children under 18 years old from overseas who have been or about to be adopted by an Australian citizen, the holder of an Australian permanent visa, or an eligible New Zealand citizen. The sponsor must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or eligible New Zealand Citizen.

Dependent Child Visa (subclass 445):

This visa is for children whose parent holds a temporary partner visa and is in the process of obtaining a permanent partner visa. The child must lodge a permanent residency application before the parent’s permanent partner visa is granted.

Orphan Relative (Permanent) Visa (subclass 117): 

This visa is for children under 18 years old, who are overseas, whose parents are deceased, permanently incapacitated, or whose whereabouts are unknown. This visa allows the child to enter and live in Australia with an Australian relative.

Orphan Relative (Permanent) Visa (subclass 837): 

This visa is for children under 18 years old who are in Australia whose parents are deceased, permanently incapacitated, or whose whereabouts are unknown. This visa allows the child to enter and live in Australia with an Australian relative.

Orphaned relative: an unmarried child under 18 at the time of application who cannot be cared for by either parent.

Other Family

Aged dependent relative visa subclasses are 114 & 838: 

This visa is for Single, widowed, or divorced person who is dependent on an Australian Relative, for all living costs financial support, food and shelter. Please note that Age requirements apply to this visa.

Last Remaining relative visa subclasses 115 & 835):

This category gives the opportunity to a close family relative who is left on their own overseas to migrate to Australia.  To be eligible to apply under this category you must be the brother, sister, child or step-relative of an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or eligible New Zealand Citizen and all your near relatives must be in Australia.

Carer Visa subclasses 116 & 836:

This visa is for people who are needed to care for an Australian relative or a member of their family unit who has a medical condition and who has been assessed by Medibank Health Solutions.

This visa requires the applicant to be sponsored by their Australian relative or their Australian relative’s partner and who fully understands about the type of care that is required. The applicant must be willing and able to give substantial, continuing assistance to an Australian relative or member of their family who has a medical condition that impairs their ability to attend to the practical aspects of everyday life. The need for assistance must be likely to continue for at least two years and you must demonstrate that no relative or organization in Australia is capable of providing the care required.
